FAQ
1. What can you do that my spellcheck software can’t?
Spellcheck software, even the newer ones, often don’t know the difference between homonyms like where, wear, and ware. Mark It Done knows the difference and WHERE to use them. You can discuss your choice of words, your intent, your perspective, with a person. You can’t with an electronic tool.
2. Do you have a degree in English?
My degree is in Education. My passion for the English language developed through life experiences. It takes more than “book” knowledge of grammar and spelling rules to be a good proofreader and copy editor. It takes attention to detail, ability to grasp the intent of the writer, and persistence.
3. How will you track the changes in my document?
Microsoft Word’s Track Changes is user-friendly and works well with simple documents that may not need much editing. However, for longer, more complex documents, I prefer a redlining application, Workshare DeltaView, used widely in the legal industry where complex changes are often the rule. It gives a more accurate document comparison, allows you to easily compare multiple document versions, and gives you a summary report that shows all changes made to the document. You get everything as a Microsoft Word document.
4. What about confidentiality?
Mark It Done respects the confidentiality of each client and will only make information available upon written authorization from the client, except in instances required by law.
5. What are your fees based on?
Mark It Done offers two levels of proofreading—Primary Proofing and Premier Proofing. Within each level, the fees depend on the complexity of the document and the requested turnaround time. Please see “Rates” under Services for details.
6. What is your payment process?
Once an “Agreement for Services” has been executed, the client submits payment via PayPal for 50% of the work. Upon satisfactory completion of the assignment, balance is due within 30 days.
